Staff Services Manager I (Specialist)

The CalSTRS Service Retirement Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Staff Services Manager I (Specialist).

 

Service Retirement is the largest benefit program within CalSTRS and responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of benefits to retired California educators.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) (Specialist) in direct support of organizational goals independently manages the most complex data collection and analysis activities as the Service Retirement (SR) Data Steward. The SSM I (Specialist) performs duties with an expert knowledge of data management, statistics and analysis, the ability to research and analyze unique data issues accurately; and utilizes data to recommend effective courses of action. The SSM I (Specialist) must maintain detailed knowledge of Teachers’ Retirement Law and other related laws, regulations, policies, procedures and business rules, and applies that knowledge to independently gather and analyze data and metrics in support of projects and business operations.

  • Demonstrated superior analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships, working with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to think logically and creatively.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, including experience with Visual Basic of Applications (VBA).
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently and exercise a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
