Landscape Maintenance Assistant

The City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department is looking for dependable and hard-working individuals to assist the Landscape Coordinator.

This is seasonal/temporary employment.

Examples of Duties

 

  • Assists in the daily inspections and general maintenance of plant materials and landscaped features found in the City's various parks, City entrances and landscaped areas.
  • Assists with inspections, documentation, and management of invasive plant species found in the City's various park properties.
  • Tasks include but are not limited to; hand digging, minor excavation, raking, tilling, mowing, watering, pruning, planting, aerating, dethatching, mulching, sodding, seeding, fertilizing, solid waste removal, and spraying.
  • Assist the Landscape Coordinator in maintaining and repair landscape features and structures such as but not limited to edging, rails, benches, signs, tables, playground equipment, walks, paths and parking features.
     

  Essential Qualifications

 

  • Must be at least 16 years of age, with a work permit.
  • Must possess valid driver license and reliable transportation to and from work site.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with the general public
  • Basic knowledge of small maintenance equipment
  • Proven track record of success in operating equipment within an environment in which safety is the most important priority?
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to all requisite safety precautions and actively participates in ensuring the well-being of colleagues and the community.
