Photographic Specialist

The Fairfax County Park Authority is seeking a photographer to join their Marketing and Communications team in the Creative Services branch. The photographer manages all photography for FCPA, both on location and in a studio, supporting the mission and priorities of the agency. Reporting to the Creative Services Branch Manager, this position works collaboratively across the Marketing and Communications team in identifying photo needs, conducting photo shoots, consistent event coverage including providing real-time publish-worthy photos at events for social media use, producing multimedia stories, maintaining a searchable archive of images, and selecting and placing photos for web, social and print. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a dedication to producing high-quality, creative final products. This position is also responsible for responding to photo requests from the press and outside organizations. The photographer manages the agency’s photography schedule and directs a team of part time and contract photographers to allow for higher volume needs. The outputs of this position are utilized across a variety of communications platforms including social media, web, digital publications, print publications and onsite events. This position also provides support to the staff video producer so candidates should possess some videography skills. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be available some nights and weekends.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in photography;
  • Knowledge of relationship of photography to the development of instructional media materials;
  • Ability to make evaluative judgments regarding best method to use in taking a photograph;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.


 

 

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to:
High school graduation or GED issued by a state department of education, supplemented by courses in photography; Plus, three years professional experience as a photographer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Extensive knowledge in digital photography and with Adobe PhotoShop, Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere and After Effects. 
  • Experience managing an archive library and part-time/contract photographers. 
  • Comfort photographing people in public. 
  • Should have some videography experience.

Driver's license (required)
 

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires walking for distances of mile or more to remote shoot locations, carrying up to 50 pounds of photography/lighting equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
