Title:                          Education Intern (Fall 2024)                    

Division:                     Guest Engagement

Reports to:                  Director of Education                                        

Position Status:          Part-time; Non-Exempt

 

Position summary: 

The Virginia Museum of History and Culture is looking for an Education Intern to assist in all aspects of the education team’s role within the Guest Engagement Division. The primary focus of this internship will be on helping with tour groups in the The Story of Virginia and Our Commonwealth exhibitions. Additional tasks will include administrative work, assisting with other student and family programming needs, and conducting research for program development. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Leading field trip programming, both in-house and via distance learning.
  • Preparing for and assisting with additional public programs (ex: Stories at the Museum, Homeschool Open House, First Fridays, Sensory Friendly Events, etc.)
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary: 

  • Willingness to work with elementary-aged children.
  • Ability to address audiences, stand, and walk for up to two hours.
  • Interest in, and willingness to learn, general Virginia history on a variety of topics

 

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Experience working with students/children within or outside of a museum/camp experience preferred. 
  • Experience analyzing primary source documents preferred.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • May be an undergraduate or graduate student. 
  • Cover Letter, Resume, and one Letter of Recommendation Required.

 

Note & Special Requirements:

  • Primary availability on weekday mornings is required. Some evening and weekend availability may be required. 
  • Applicants must be over eighteen and must undergo a background check. 
  • This position is eligible for university internship credit and is funded at $12/hour up to 135 hours.
