Laboratory Research Technician

Med-Pharmacology and Chemical Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24004684)

 

The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology is seeking a Research Technician to provide research support in a laboratory focused on lung immunology.  The Research Technician position assists in the design, interpretation and execution of a variety of experiments (including mammalian work) in the laboratory.  The Research Technician also assists in the design and execution of DNA and RNA extraction from different samples, including blood, airway epithelium and other tissues.  Under general guidance conducts routine and non-routine manipulations required for non-standard tests involving various medical research.  This includes assisting in the basic design, execution and interpretation of a variety of laboratory experiments. Candidate should have a good knowledge of basic laboratory skills and must be able to work independently on tasks. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, willing to learn new techniques, open to discussion and attentive to detail. As successful candidate should have a BS degree or higher in a related scientific field with at least 1 years of relevant laboratory experience.  Advanced computer skills are a plus.  Strong organizational skills, dependability, and good communication skills are required.

Job Summary

 

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

 

Essential Functions 

Computer work: walking from place to place; standing and sitting to perform essential tasks.  Good manual dexterity.

Physical Effort 

Lifting and stacking of boxes of supplies, standing for extended periods required to fulfill workload.  Light - Maximum lifting of up to 20 lbs. With frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 lbs. or a negligible amount; significant walking or standing may be required or may involve sitting with a degree of pushing and pulling.
