Progressive Caucus Director

The New York City Council’s Progressive Caucus seeks a full-time Director to facilitate the operations of the Caucus. This individual will directly report to the Caucus Co-Chairs.

The Progressive Caucus Director oversees all operations of the Caucus. This individual will be hired by Caucus members, and will be an employee of the New York City Council.

SALARY RANGE:

$75,000 to $85,000

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy & Budget Advocacy

  1. Develop, research and advocate for a policy agenda, legislative packages, and budget
    proposals based on Caucus consensus and priorities.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with Council Members, council staff, and key
    external stakeholders on behalf of the Caucus – including but not limited to labor unions,
    community organizations, and policy groups.
  3. Organize Caucus actions such as rallies, briefings, and community events related to
    priority issues and work with Caucus Members and staff to advance priorities.

 Communications Strategy

  1. Develop communications strategy in tandem with PC Leadership team and staff, and
    manage Progressive Caucus brand.
  2. Create communications assets for the Caucus including press releases, talking points, sign-on letters, visuals, and media toolkits.
  3. Draft public-facing materials including statements, quotes, reports, and releases as well
    as field inquiries from members of the press.
  4. Maintain an effective social media presence, manage Caucus website, and promote
    Caucus activity.
  5. Develop critical communication with stakeholders, advocates, allies, and external
    stakeholders collaborating with the Caucus.

 Internal Administration

  1. Schedule monthly Caucus meetings along with relevant activity including drafting
    agendas, sending notices, facilitating discussion, and executing follow up.
  2. Coordinate regular communication between members’ offices on shared priorities to
    ensure cohesion within the Caucus.
  3. Plan strategic engagements including policy meetings, retreats, conferences, agency
    meetings, and social events for Caucus members and staff.
  4. Develop, maintain, and update Caucus bylaws and decision-making processes to ensure
    a democratic and accountable body.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

  1. At least 2-3 years of work experience in government, public policy, community organizing or other relevant fields.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing large projects and/or advocacy campaigns.
  3. Knowledge of NYC politics, government and current issues facing progressives ,including past Progressive Caucus campaigns.
  4. Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, ability to oversee multiple projects, and coordinate multiple busy schedules.
  5. Experience with supervision and project management.
  6. Excellent writing and communications skills.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
