State of North Carolina Insurance Consumer Analyst II

Salary Recruitment Range: $42,464 - $55,000
Salary Grade: NC11 

 

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workday. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.


 

Mission of the Department of Insurance:

To promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user-friendly service, courtesy, and respect.


 

Primary Purpose of the Position:

This position analyzes, researches, and pursues resolution of citizens written Life and Health insurance complaints, and provides telephone assistance to citizens who call with insurance-related questions and concerns. Position is also responsible, based on information from consumers, for identifying company, agent and industry issues and trends that may require closer regulatory review by the Department. Position requires knowledge and experience of life and health insurance products.  The position also requires extensive verbal and written interaction with the general public and with regulated entities, including occasional public speaking opportunities, and possible participation in informal conferences and administrative hearings involving regulated entities. Excellent analytical, writing, and oral communication skills are essential. This position is in the Consumer Services Division.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

 

  • Documented experience with Life and Health insurance principles and practices and North Carolina insurance laws and regulations.
  • Documented experience with Life and Health  insurance policies and coverages, terminology and costs.
  • Documented experience analyzing a variety of complaints, apply insurance laws and regulations, draw valid conclusions, and document findings in reports and correspondence to consumers.
  • Documented experience interpreting and applying various insurance laws and regulations.
  • Documented experience  translating technical insurance language into layman terminology.
  • Documented experience with making presentations before groups of consumers and/or insurance and regulated entity personnel or other interested/affected parties.
  • Documented experience in Life and Health Insurance.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree business or economics or a related program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in insurance underwriting, claims, or policyholder service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
