Family Advocate

The Family Advocate delivers high quality, respectful and individualized support, while providing resources and referrals to social services for families enrolled in Head Start (preschool) and Early Head Start (infant/ toddlers). The Family Advocate supports recruitment and enrollment of new families. The Family Advocate facilitates implements the Parent Family Community Engagement Framework and supports families in developing goals to support their family and their children's development. The Family Advocate uses ethnically & culturally responsive approaches to problem solving for children and families, participates in development and delivery of parent education materials and classes, supports parents in accessing resources and information for supporting child development and learning, and to empower families who have experienced stress or adverse experiences.

Responsibilities for the Family Advocate include:

  • Encourage and support parent engagement
  • Provide parenting and community resource support to center families
  • Work as a team with family services and education staff throughout the program
  • Complete family assessments
  • Work closely with team members to create and deliver parent engagement events
  • Complete home visits with the classroom teacher
  • Maintain a caseload of families
  • Complete data entry of enrollments and case-management activities
  • Participate in COVID health screenings of children and adults entering the center
  • Conduct recruiting and enrollment activities in the community
  • Communicate with coworkers and families in a warm and professional manner

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or related field (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Head Start standards and licensing standards (preferred)
  • Two years of experience in human services
  • Proficient knowledge of child development and parent involvement activities
  • Able to work opening shift (8:00 am)
  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Compliance with other regulatory requirements as applicable
  • Clear understanding of verbal, written and oral communication
  • *Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
