Special Education Teacher - Resource Room

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement student Individual Education Plans
  • Work cooperatively with regular and special education teachers, LISD personnel, governmental and other service agencies.
  • Plan for and supervise teacher assistants for students in the general education classrooms.
  • Effectively and consistently communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community
  • Be a team player; working with other members to improve techniques, relations with the community, and school environment
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to students in grades Y5-3 who require additional support in reading, writing, mathematics and/or behavioral support.
  • Provide accommodations and modifications to assist students with accessing the general education curriculum
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to accommodate or modify curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of students with diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, IEPs, and educational planning meetings.
  • Participate in district-wide professional development
  • Perform other duties consistent within the scope of the position

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
  • Current & appropriate Michigan certification
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of technology
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the academic, social, and emotional needs of the high school age student is required.

Terms of Employment

Full-time position. All terms per Master Contract between Board of Education and the Tecumseh Education Association/MEA.
