Band Director

CREATE A LEGACY AS THE NEXT E. C. GLASS BAND DIRECTOR

Lynchburg City Schools invites passionate and dynamic music educators to apply for the position of Band Director at E. C. Glass High School. We are seeking an inspiring leader to continue our tradition of excellence and foster a vibrant, inclusive, and high-performing band program. As the Band Director, you will have the exciting opportunity to shape and direct our comprehensive band program, including concert bands, jazz band, indoor drumline, and the E. C. Glass Marching Band. Your leadership will make a lasting impact on students' lives, guiding them to reach their full potential both musically and personally.

Instruct and Conduct

Lead engaging and diverse band classes, including a jazz band, tailored to student interest. Instruction may also include AP Music Theory and/or percussion ensemble, according to the strengths of the hired candidate.

Lead with Vision

Direct, coordinate, and grow all aspects of the band program—including the dedicated band booster organization— ensuring a cohesive and dynamic experience for all students.
 

Collaborate for Success

Collaborate with schools and arts teachers from across the school division to enrich the performing arts offerings provided to the students of Lynchburg. Also collaborate with the theater program by conducting the pit orchestra for theater productions.

Nurture and Recruit Talent

Play a vital role in shaping the K-12 music developmental pipeline in Lynchburg, working closely with middle school band directors to recruit and nurture young musical talent, ensuring a seamless transition to high school band.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music Instrumental PreK-12. Applicants are encouraged to provide audio and/or video recordings showcasing their conducting skills and ensemble performances, in addition to a resume. Preferred applicants will be able to demonstrate proficiency on a wide range of instruments.
