GIS Specialist III

JOB LISTING: The GIS Specialist III is responsible for the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Geographic Information System (GIS) databases and applications. This includes analyzing system requirements, developing, testing, and prototyping GIS applications, and establishing procedures for GIS database maintenance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design and producevarious types of customized maps, tables, and reports using spatial analysis and GIS technology.
  • Develop spatially enableddatabase schemas, standardizing, migrating, and loading data into enterprise database systems.
  • Manage SQL ServerManagement Studio, including permissions, scheduling backups, and database optimization.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting assistance to GIS users.
  • Streamline, automate, and maintain the City of Bowie's GIS data layersand geoprocessing operations.
  • Facilitate geographic data exchange with City contractors.
  • Research, recommend, and implement industrybest practices to drive forward strategic and business initiatives.
  • Attend local and regional meetingsand conferences to keep updatedwith industry standards.
  • Undertake additional GIS tasks and operations as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cartography, Geography, Computer Science, Information Management, GIS, Engineering or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in GIS or a relatedfield and/ or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a GIS related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts, procedures, and applications.
  • Knowledge in Python,JavaScript, SQL, Arcadeand/or HTML.
  • Expertise in ESRI GIS systems,including ArcGIS Desktop,ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Proficient with contemporary computer systems, including diverse software applications and network connectivity solutions.
  • Independent work ethic with strongplanning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex computer conceptseffectively in writingand speech.
  • Capability to work under pressureand meet established deadlines.
  • Must be flexible, able to multi-task, and enjoy workingin a diverse, results-oriented workplace where a premium is placed on teamwork
  • Sense of humor

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient physical condition to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment; effectively make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes; perform repetitive motion; talk and hear; and finger objects and controls.

The work environment is an officeenvironment that may require sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

SALARY: $68,257
