24-03683 Property Assessment Coordinator I

The Office of Property Valuation has an opening for a Property Assessment Coordinator I in the Division of Local Support, Southern Field Branch. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to elected officials, staff, and other managers.

As a Property Assessment Coordinator I for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, you will provide direct technical assistance to PVAs and local officials to resolve tax matters.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide assistance to PVAs, Sheriff’s, County Clerks and other County Officials on all matters relating to property tax.
  • Review sales and assessments data that has been submitted by the PVA as part of the annual assessment/sales ratio study for each county assigned.
  • Conduct sheriff settlements to conclude the state property tax collection process for a particular year.
  • Conduct performance audits on the assessment and office records maintained by the PVA offices in the assigned area.
  • Travel to various counties as a field representative for the Department of Revenue; Counties include Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Russell, Pulaski, Laurel, Casey, Lincoln, Rockcastle and others if needed.

The successful candidate should possess clear communication skills to work with taxpayers in person or over the telephone and in writing, sometimes in confrontational situations.

Additional / Supplemental information:

  • Required to successfully complete a background investigation including an FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Required to comply with all tax laws
  • Mostly at a desk using a computer and telephone
  • Some travel for training and education.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, real estate or a related field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in property assessment, appraisal or property tax administrative issues.

 

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.


Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Property assessment or appraisal experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Travel is required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
