Accounting Intern

We are looking for an ambitious intern to provide support to the accounting department by managing daily accounting tasks. 

Under the supervision of our staff, the accounting intern will 

  • Prepare various routine journal entries,
  • Communicate with business partners to ensure accurate recording of transactions,
  • Input journal entries into our general ledger system,
  • Perform other clerical, administrative, or accounting tasks on an as-needed basis.

As part of their internship, the intern will be given a large project to serve as their deliverable to the team, which will demonstrate the knowledge they’ve gained as a result of their on-the-job training. 

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of accounting and financial principles and have a high attention to detail. To be successful in this role, you should be willing to collaborate with coworkers, maintain a positive attitude and have a strong desire to learn!

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Post journal entries to ensure all transactions are recorded
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports 
  • Perform account reconciliations 
  • Assist with fixed asset inventory count
  • Provide administrative support as needed

 

PROJECT DELIVERABLES:

 

The accounting department will identify a needed project to be completed by the intern during their time in the department. The project will be accounting-relevant, involve multiple steps, allow the intern to exercise a degree of judgment, provide value-add to the department, and will serve as a demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities possessed by the intern.

Example projects include:

  1. Completion of the Company’s fixed asset inventory,
  2. Calculation of a forfeiture rate for the Company’s stock-based compensation awards,
  3. Updating the Company’s accounting policies,
  4. Preparation of an Excel workbook for a new or novel accounting task.

 

TIMELINES/DUE DATES:

 

The Summer Intern project due date will be on or around August 15. The Winter Intern project due date will be on or around March 15.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS PER WEEK:

 

The intern will follow the Accounting Department’s then-effective in-office policy. This policy is currently 4 days in office (Monday through Thursday). This policy is subject to change.

 

 

STUDY DISCIPLINE AND PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Must be actively working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting 
  • Completion of introductory accounting courses and basic understanding of financial principles
  • Proficiency in excel and strong communication skills
