Student Library Intern with The Wolfsonian–FIU

The Wolfsonian–FIU is hiring a paid Library Intern for Fall 2024 as part of its Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)-supported initiative to open pathways to museum careers.

The Library internship offers training and hands-on experience in caring for, documenting, and preserving rare books and ephemera. The intern will become familiar with the responsibilities and roles of librarians and archivists while learning best practices for evaluating primary resource materials such as books, photographs, and manuscripts. Tasks involve accessioning and cataloging materials, creating archival enclosures for fragile items, conducting research about library items or topics, and digitizing historical collections. Additionally, there may be opportunities to assist with exhibition activities, process archives, help with inventory, contribute to metadata cleanup, or other special projects.

The Library Intern will:

  • Gain key experience in library science and collection management.
  • Become familiar with The Wolfsonian’s holdings of over 125,000 volumes, archives, and ephemera.
  • Receive training in handling, assessing, and making protective enclosures for fragile items.
  • Have access to Wolfsonian student enrichment activities such as career roundtables, a resume/cover letter writing workshop, and beyond.

This internship is held in person at 1001 Washington Ave, Miami Beach 33139.

The largest of FIU’s three museums, The Wolfsonian is an art and design research center in South Beach with a collection of more than 200,000 items from the modern age (1850–1950).
