The Newport News Behavioral Health Center uses a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment. It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.

Job Description

Therapists are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of inpatient, continuing care, and family services. This includes providing clinical support to other staff members, conducting interventions, conducting psychosocial assessments, developing the resident’s treatment plan, conducting group, individual and family therapy. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.

Key Responsibilities

· Responsible for maintaining the therapeutic milieu which includes overseeing and coordinating the delivery of in resident, continuing care, and family services.

· Monitors adherence to the program schedule and assists the multidisciplinary team in coordinating the resident’s care.

· Provides admissions personnel with ongoing admissions and discharge information and communicates with unit staff regarding resident’s progress.

· Completes an initial bonding session with the resident within 24 hours of admission or by the next business day.

· Conducts emotional, behavioral, and social assessment within 7 days of admission, and determines what, if any, further assessments are needed (psychological, vocational, etc.).

· With the multidisciplinary treatment team, identifies treatment goals and objectives that are clearly related to the problems on the Master Problem List. Goals/objectives are measurable and time bound. Develop individualized treatment plans for assigned residents.

· Completes treatment plan reviews monthly and ensures that progress in treatment is clearly documented in a timely manner.

· Conducts group, individual, and family therapy sessions as assigned. Ensures that therapy progress notes are completed and submitted to medical records promptly based on the facilities policies and procedures.

· Coordinates and develops a continuing care plan and prepares resident for discharge.

Qualifications

Must have a Master’s Degree and be licensed or licensed eligible in the State of Virginia in the field of psychology or a related field. Must have at least two years experience conducting group, individual and family therapy using a variety of treatment modalities. Must be able to compose and deliver educational lectures. Must be able to communicate effectively with other health care professionals, both verbally and in writing. Must have at least one year treating a variety of mental health disorders. Prefer 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents.
