Fellowship Position Specific Description  

 The Biggs Lab Public Health Fellow II will work in the area of Epidemiology & Data, Laboratory Reporting with a focus on environmental health. This position is located in Albany, NY. The selected fellow will assist the NYSDOH Wadsworth Center’s public health laboratory response to identifying contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) in drinking water (e.g., PFAS) and related matrices. The incumbent in this position is responsible for support activities within the Laboratory of Organic Analytical Chemistry. The incumbent will have the potential to setup a complete method identifying target compounds through extraction and analysis. This will include validating the method procedure, along with writing supporting documentation and reports. In addition, the incumbent may also assist in the processing of drinking water and related environmental samples using sample preparation techniques (e.g., solid phase extraction), and analysis using instrumentation such as liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Other duties may also include assisting in analysis and report generation in support of public health emergencies across NY state. The incumbent will also perform general laboratory support tasks and assist with required quality assurance activities. 

Minimum Qualifications 

At least one of the following: 

  •  
    • Two years of experience within a health, public health, education, human services, community-based organization, or institutional setting 
    • Two years of experience in administrative, personnel, fiscal, or other related operational activity 
    • Bachelor's degree 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Proficiency with computers, including word processing, email, data entry, using spreadsheets and databases, and creating presentations. 
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment.    
  • A flexible, adaptive, and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals. 
  • Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude.     
  • Employment is contingent on completion of a background check.    
  • Must be able to meet position requirements, including reporting for onsite work or local travel as required.
