Teacher Assistant

The Barry Robinson Center is a premier behavioral health system dedicated to improving the lives of children since 1933. We offer residential treatment care from our campus in Norfolk, VA.

 

We are seeking a full-time Teacher Assistant to join our team. Responsibilities include providing support in the classroom setting, assist with classroom management, as well as assisting in instruction and helping to create an environment conducive to learning while meeting the students' behavioral and academic needs. This role also provides ongoing support to our Residential Department to provide direct care supervision of residents while ensuring academic engagement, instructional support and safety. 

 

 

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 am until 3:30 pm

Pay Range: $16.00 - $16.50 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Human Services field
  • Experience working with middle school or high school youth in a classroom setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, staff members, and students as well as cooperatively and effectively with all other members of the treatment team.
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team (to include Classroom duties, Residential duties, and Administrative duties)

 

Duties: 

  • Assist teacher in providing daily educational services that meet the needs of the students
  • Assist in meeting the diverse needs of the current student population.
  • Participate and/or transport residents to activities or educational outings using agency vehicles.
  • Provide daily education services using techniques and strategies such as 1:1, small groups and whole groups
  • Maintaining a clean, neat and organized classroom
  • Ensure safety of resident's living space, as well as help to guide residents in room care, and cleanliness.
  • Help with both informal and formal assessments in order to plan for student academic and behavioral needs
  • Providing ongoing supervision of students as assigned
  • Assisting the teacher in maintaining daily behavior log to provide data to update monthly treatment plans, and to plan for the needs of the students.
  • Take a collaborating multi-team approach by maintaining an understanding od dorm protocols, activity schedules and care needs for our residents.
