Technical Writer

Job Description:  The Technical Writer assists with the development, review, and editing of Systems Engineering documents, Test & Evaluation (T&E) procedures/documentation, User and/or Training Guides, memorandums, and additional program documents as applicable. The Technical Writer meets with Government personnel, team members, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure content of documentation is thorough and accurate; manages document reviews; tracks recommendations and comments in Comment Review Matrices (CRMs) and adjudicates feedback received; ensures correct templates and style guides are utilized; and submits error-free documents to the Government customer for final staffing.

 

Required Qualifications:  The successful candidate must possess the following:

·        Ability to obtain Active Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET Clearance

·        Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in English, Journalism, or a related specialty

·        Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher

·        Demonstrated understanding of copyediting principles and governing regulations, with extensive experience in reviewing documentation for content, consistency, grammar, and formatting

·        Demonstrated ability to work independently, write and edit multiple products simultaneously, and manage priorities to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

·        Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to articulate and explain recommended changes on assigned draft documents

·        Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with military personnel, government civilian staff, and technical experts

·        Demonstrated experience coordinating with document authors in the drafting, review, and publication of technical documentation

·        Ability to write using clear and concise language that adheres to customer-established standards and conventions

·        Ability to develop required graphics, tables, figures, and engineering drawings using basic graphic applications such as PowerPoint and Visio

·        Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities

Desired Qualifications:  Additional desirable qualifications include the following:

·        Knowledge of the Marine Corps organizational structure

·        Experience supporting Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) programs

Specific Duties:  The successful candidate must have demonstrated strengths in multiple tasks associated with the development and review of technical documentation. Specifically, the Technical Writer will be responsible for performing the following duties:

·        Provide quality assurance, formatting, and editorial updates to a variety of document types, including Systems Engineering program documents, User and Training Guides, T&E Procedure documents, Memorandums, System Specifications, Interface Design documents, and other programmatic documents as applicable

·        Work closely with Systems Engineers, Software Developers, and Test personnel to ensure technical content and system upgrades are documented comprehensively and accurately, while adhering to Government formatting specifications

·        Coordinate with document authors and team members in drafting, reviewing, and publishing technical documentation

·        Understand and relay technical information, such as system functionality, software troubleshooting, and interface designs though the development of engineering and user documentation for operational communities

·        Develop/maintain/update program documents, briefs, worksheets, and templates and upload them to the Government SharePoint site as applicable

·        Incorporate consistent tables, graphs, charts, and/or multiple column spreadsheets into technical documents/reports without format error

·        Review and edit documents written by multiple contributors to ensure all information is consistent and the final document is written with “one voice”

·        Work in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities

Working Environment and Physical Requirements:  This position largely operates in a professional office environment. Persons applying for this position must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
