Summer Camp Health Intern

Job Title: Health Intern

Duration: Summer (June - August)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Health Intern to join our team at a vibrant summer camp in Tennessee. This internship offers juniors and seniors in college an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic camp environment while providing essential healthcare support to campers and staff. As a Health Intern, you will work closely with our health team to ensure the well-being and safety of all individuals on campgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine health checks on campers and staff, including temperature checks and symptom assessments.
  • Administer first aid and basic medical care as needed, under the supervision of the Health Director or qualified medical personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all campers and staff, documenting any injuries, illnesses, or medications administered.
  • Assist in the distribution of medications to campers according to prescribed schedules and dosage instructions.
  • Educate campers and staff on health and safety practices, including proper hygiene, sun protection, and insect bite prevention.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures, including coordinating medical evacuations if necessary.
  • Participate in staff training sessions on health-related topics, including CPR, first aid, and emergency protocols.
  • Collaborate with other camp departments to ensure a holistic approach to camper well-being and safety.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, promoting healthy lifestyle choices and fostering a supportive camp community.

Qualifications:

  • Junior or senior standing in college, pursuing a degree in nursing, pre-medical studies, public health, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with campers, staff, and parents.
  • Prior experience working or volunteering in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Current certification in CPR and basic first aid, or willingness to obtain certification before the start of the internship.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, demonstrating quick thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Genuine interest in working with children and adolescents in a camp setting, promoting their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and responsibilities within a fast-paced camp environment.
  • Commitment to upholding camp policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
