About the Opportunity:

Are you a compassionate and creative individual passionate about making a positive impact on children's lives? Join our nonprofit dedicated to children's well-being. This role, offered as an internship, combines hands-on experience and mentorship. The internship/volunteer role will be on a trial basis for 30 noncontiguous hours over the course of 60 business banking days. We want to ensure there is mutual synergy and a cohesive working relationship with our foundation. Our priority is to ensure you receive a valuable education. You will have the opportunity to help design a publication for a nonprofit children's foundation, adding this experience to your résumé, and potentially establishing a long-term relationship with our nonprofit.

Role Overview:

Key Responsibilities: As a Design Editor/Layout Editor, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the overall look and aesthetic quality of our publications within Canva. Using the Canva platform, you'll lay out pages, arrange photos, graphics, and text for visual appeal.

Essential Skills:

Design Editor/Layout Editor Skills:

• Generate story ideas and manage writing staff.
• Approve content, appearance, and layout of featured articles.
• Oversee photography, design, and artwork.
• Collaborate with writers and artists on features, layouts, and artwork.
• Ensure compliance with media law and industry regulations.
• Experience with Canva is essential.

Magazine Editor Requirements:

• Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Content Management Systems (CMS).
• Attention to detail.

Additional Skills and Expertise Needed:

Graphic Design and Layout:

• Proficiency in design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
• Ability to create visually appealing and luxurious layouts.

Content Creation and Editing:

• Exceptional writing and editing skills.
• Knowledge of high-end lifestyle topics (luxury goods, travel, fashion, real estate, etc.).
• Ability to curate and produce engaging, high-quality content.
• Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).

Photography and Visual Arts:

• High-level photography skills or the ability to collaborate with professional photographers.
• Knowledge of photo editing and retouching.

Branding and Marketing:

• Understanding of branding principles and how to maintain a consistent brand image.
• Ability to create marketing strategies to attract and retain an affluent readership.
• Experience with social media marketing and digital campaigns.

Project Management:

• Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee the production process.
• Ability to manage timelines, budgets, and coordinate with various stakeholders (writers, designers, printers, advertisers).

Print Production Knowledge:

• Understanding of the printing process, paper types, finishes, and other production details.
• Experience in liaising with printers and ensuring the final product meets high standards.

Research and Trend Analysis:

• Ability to research and stay updated on trends and interests of the affluent demographic.
• Analytical skills to understand reader preferences and adapt content accordingly.

Networking and Relationship Building:

• Strong networking skills to build relationships with high-end brands, advertisers, and influencers.
• Ability to secure exclusive interviews, features, and collaborations.

Business Acumen:

• Understanding of the financial aspects of magazine publishing, including budgeting and revenue generation.
• Ability to negotiate with advertisers and sponsors.

Technical Skills:

• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and platforms.
• Basic knowledge of web development and SEO for the magazine’s online presence.
