Broadcast Utility Tech

Job Description

 

The Broadcast Utility Technician is a full-time, project-based position. The working hours for this position are scheduled from 4am to 12pm, or as needed. 

  • Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for a live three-hour national morning show
  • Set up and check (pre-set, dress) and remove all mics and IFBs from guests prior to and after their appearance on air
  • Pro-actively and as directed, maintain the integrity of the studio appearance and all associated audio equipment including mics, IFBs, batteries, cables etc.
  • Stage sets as needed for all programming
  • Maintain and inventory studio props
  • Operate studio jib camera in either a break or primary capacity when needed
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge, command, and operation (for breaks or primary operation as needed) of various production systems (robotics, audio and production switchers – both automated and manual)

Qualifications

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Communications) or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum one (1+) year of experience in TV studio production
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and set / strike studio gear
  • Willingness to work flexible, non-traditional hours including nights, weekends and holidays

Desired Characteristics:

  • A1 Operator experience a plus
  • Aptitude and desire to continue training at the next technical level (TD, Audio)
  • Serve as fill-in for all other Tech 1 positions as needed (i.e. Robotic Camera, Ped Camera, etc)
  • Familiarity with NFL football a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Must be a collaborative team player who works well with others, in a fast paced, dynamic studio environment

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Additional Information

 

In accordance with applicable NYC law, the estimated base salary range for this role is $60,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience.
