Police Wellness Coordinator #40381

Duties:

Come keep the Mental health of the Nations Top Police force healthy as our next Police Wellness Coordinator. The Police Wellness Coordinator will report to the Police Chief's Office, specifically the Police Chief’s Executive Aide.  This position will be responsible for developing and monitoring mental health well-being resources and services for the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) workforce through research, assessment, coordination of case management, and implementation of various mental health, wellness, and resiliency programs. Monitor occupational safety and health practices to comply with federal and state regulations, and City policy. Serve as the departmental liaison to the Office of Occupational Safety and Health Services (OSHS) for issues pertaining to employee mental health surveillance, monitoring and force protection activities.

Police Chief Wellness Officer specific responsibilities include:

  • Conduct individual or group evaluation/assessments and recommend appropriate resources and services to improve psycho-social functioning.
  • Critically analyze incident reports and statistics to identify injury/illness trends, to determine areas for increased training and to provide regular reporting to command staff with an emphasis on accident prevention.
  • Assess department mental wellness offerings by tracking utilization of programs.
  • Conduct training to educate supervisors and senior leadership to identify when to provide appropriate intervention, resources, and proactive support to direct reports.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders and department supervisors developing and implementing employee wellness policies and programs.
  • Implement and support mental health education and awareness initiatives to improve the overall health and quality of life for members.
  • Serve as the department’s Peer Support Team co-coordinator.

Preferences:

The following criteria is preferred:
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Professional Counselor (CPC)
• Master’s degree in a clinical field such as counseling, social work, or other directly related clinical field.
• Experience coordinating and facilitating wellness programs.
• Experience working with a holistic wellness program to provide broad-based services to LEO/First Responders and/or other public safety employees.
• Experience identifying resources and organizations that can serve as strategic partners in program development.
• General Instructor Certification from the Department of Criminal Justice, or similar entity.
• Working with public safety professionals/first responder populations.
• Experience in a safety role with a law enforcement agency
• Experience analyzing and synthesizing data to make recommendations

Work Schedule: 

Monday-Friday, 0830-1700 with a thirty-minute lunch.  Position may require working additional or off-hours based on organizational needs or specific incidents.

Traffic Violations :  Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years.

Drugs :  Any involvement in the sale of illegal drugs as an adult.    Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens, or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years.  Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months.
