Hiring Range: $50,114 - $67,653

Chesterfield County Government is seeking a Residential Counselor to provide supports and teaching to adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, some with co-occurring mental illness/ and or physical disabilities. You will work in group homes, supported living, in-home, homes of families or with individuals living in their own apartments. You will support choices, inclusion, decision making and self -directed services. You will also be responsible for providing intermittent supports and teaching to adults with intellectual disabilities living independently in the community. Supports and teaching in medication, hygiene, cooking and planning meals, cleaning and organizing apartments, paying bills, grocery shopping, problem solving skills, socializing, and developing meaningful relationships, community integration and inclusion, and implementing positive behavior supports and general medical care. You will also implement, monitor, and document individual service delivery and write and develop person centered plans in an electronic record. Perform other work as required.

Successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field; one year of experience providing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The following is also required:

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
