Computer Systems Engineer

Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) End User Experience group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Computer Systems Engineer! Our team works a hybrid 9x80 schedule located at our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Administer and maintain both physical and virtual servers. Use technical skills to build new servers per standard practices and improve the server build automated process. Monitor server performance for maximum availability.
  • Maintain server security through vulnerability monitoring, resolving vulnerabilities, and patching server.
  • Refer corrective actions to repair technicians as appropriate.
  • Provide direction to end user and data center on process enhancements available through hardware/software applications, network access requirements, computer registration, software upgrades, etc.
  • Use network management system and facility contacts to determine the cause of malfunctions and category of maintenance required.
  • Administer disaster recover management with systems.
  • Implement and integrate enterprise systems.
  • Document outages and impairments using work tracking system, assign tickets and follow through with customer and work performers.
  • Use computer programming capabilities, developmental toolkits, and process improvements to assist with technical issues.
  • Perform testing and conflict analysis on new systems to be released to INL employees and provide results to the appropriate IT organizations.
  • Coordinate, implement and perform duties related to the management of user authentication and credentials. Provision and de-provision accounts, remote access, and associated privileges.
  • Work with department leads and management to process approval for work scope and schedule.
  • Provide communication internal and externally to the department regarding schedule and work impacts.
  • Mentor junior staff and look for opportunities to involve them in current projects.
  • Provide technical software and hardware knowledge to support desktop and server operating systems, enterprise systems software, applications, and network configuration and communication problem resolution and effective use of application features and functions.
  • Identify and coordinate problem resolution between hardware, software and networking.
  • Coordinate with software developer for resolution of application abnormalities and problem resolution or product enhancement.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8-10+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity) and 0-2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Applicants are subject to the requirements of DOE O 142.3B, Unclassified Foreign National Access Program.

Relevant experience includes:

  • Knowledge or experience with information technology account management/client user account management.
  • Knowledge or experience with common operating systems, including troubleshooting software errors.
  • Knowledge or experience with protection for common operating systems and dealing with cyber security threats.
  • Knowledge or experience with automation or scripting
  • Knowledge or experience with Active Directory Administration
  • Must have diagnostics skills and problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge or experience with User Authentication Administration.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming and networking.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

Job Information

  • Salary Grade PR0100: 180 ($62,640 - $100,224) / Salary Grade PR0200: 190 ($70,680 - $116,616)
