Community Overdose Intervention Specialist (AmeriCorps)

The Community Overdose Prevention Specialist works on special projects that involve overdose reversal training and Narcan distribution in the community and at the Truth Pharm office. 

Please note, this is a Public Health AmeriCorps position, not a traditional job or internship. Members will serve in-person in Binghamton, NY. A term of service involves 900 total hours of service throughout a 10-11 month period at 20-25 hours/week. Members receive a living allowance of $11,000 (divided into biweekly payments throughout the term) and an education award of $3,447.50 (to be used on qualified education expenses).

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform outreach for Narcan distribution projects
  • Provide outreach in communities via tabling events and other means to provide Overdose reversal training and Narcan distribution
  • Work at Truth Pharm’s office to provide walk-in service response to community members to assist them with their immediate needs such as basic needs resourcing, drug testing supplies, treatment resources and overdose reversal supplies
  • Assist with data collection and reporting
  • Assist with assembling Narcan kits and work with community member volunteers to utilize their assistance for various overdose prevention strategies
  • Provide community Narcan and other trainings pertaining to overdose prevention
  • Orchestrate and manage materials related to tabling, outreach, training, overdose prevention and Narcan distribution
  • Assist with social media campaigns related to overdose prevention
  • Assist with projects and tasks related to overdose prevention
     

Required: 

  • COVID vaccination (original shot(s) and at least one booster)
  • Valid driver's license
  • A reliable, personal vehicle
