The Office of General Counsel seeks a legal intern with a strong work ethic to support the Office in its duties and functions during the summer of 2024. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel. Duties include conducting legislative research; drafting contracts; learning to review government contracts; with supervision, counseling clients on issues involving government ethics; and conducting other legal research to support CBO’s analytic activitiesAdditional responsibilities include drafting legal memorandums and briefs about the significance of various court decisions to CBO, assisting with statutory interpretation, and verifying legal citations in draft CBO reports. 

Qualifications
Candidates must have completed their first two years of law school by May 31, 2024. CBO is not accepting recent graduates. The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and complete projects under tight deadlines is required. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills and be able to perform requested legal and factual research using both electronic library searches. Strong interpersonal skills are a must, and candidates should be able to work independently and as a part of a team. Training or experience in legislative affairs and prior paralegal or legal office experience are desired but not required.
 
Salary and Benefits
The hourly rate ranges from $28.00 to $35.00 and will be commensurate with educational attainment and related experience. This is a temporary position that is expected to last approximately 10 weeks between May and August. The selected candidate will be expected to work a 40-hour week, but an alternate schedule may be considered. The position will be on-site at the Ford House Office Building in Washington, D.C. The selected candidate is expected to reside in the D.C.-metro area for the duration of the internship.
