Substitute Assistant Early Childhood Teacher / Education Support Assistant (multiple positions)


Job Description:
The Andy Taylor Center is part of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) in the College of Education and Human Services at Longwood University. The Substitute Assistant Early Childhood Teacher will provide support to the Lead Teacher in the classroom. The Substitute Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting with planning, guiding, and assessing instruction. The selected candidate will also be responsible for collaborating with Lead Teachers to ensure smooth transitions, similar expectations throughout the day, and efficient planning. Additionally, the Substitute Assistant Teacher will facilitate open communication with families. This position will report to the Site Director. 

Requirements:
The Andy Taylor Center operates daily Monday – Friday from 7:00 am – 5:30 pm year-round, including during some university holidays and summer break. Assistant teachers are typically scheduled for up to 29 hours per work week. Candidates must be able to work a shift multiple days a week between 7:00 am-8:30 am and/or 1:00 pm-5:30 pm.

The ATC seeks candidates with experience working in early childhood programming. Candidates should have experience working in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related fields. Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the development of young children and knowledge of and/or training in emergent curriculum and documentation. It is also preferred that candidates have experience collaboratively teaching in a school or childcare center with children from birth to age five. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, which may include, but is not limited to occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, sitting, and repetitive motion.

Additional Information:
**FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE**
This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary wage position limited to an average of 29 hours per week and 1500 hours maximum per work year. Pay band 1. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
