Diversity and Pipeline Design Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION

The diversity of the student population in Providence Public Schools is not reflected by the teachers who instruct them. "Research confirms that when taught by a teacher of color, students of color experience higher reading and math test scores, higher graduation rates, decreased dropout and discipline rates and increased enrollment in advanced courses (Carver-Thomas, 2018)".

The Diversity and Pipeline Design Specialist will work collaboratively with the Director of Diversity Recruitment and Pipeline Initiatives to enhance current pipeline and alternative certification work as well as develop additional pipelines for educators of color to enter the PPSD teaching profession. This role will not only focus on recruitment of individuals, there will be a heavy focus on the retention of our diverse taskforce.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • BA required, MA preferred +; 2-3 years of combined Talent Development, Program Management, Talent Acquisition, Public Administration experience or other related field

Under the Direction of the Director of Diversity Recruitment and Pipeline Initiatives, the Diversity and Pipeline Design Specialist will:

RECRUITMENT

  •  Develop innovative strategies to increase the number of teacher candidates of color certified in all content areas, including Special Education, Math and Science as well as bilingual teachers and teachers of English as a Second Language.
  • Recruit full-time, part-time, temporary, and contractual and intern personnel with a specific focus on diversifying the workforce.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Team on marketing strategies to ensure effective and efficient recruitment of Teachers of Color, bilingual educators and parties interested in entering the teaching career through alternative pathways.

PIPELINES

  • Manage relationships with key pipeline partner organizations (e.g. universities and community organizations) to incorporate a progressive ability to reach target applicants and develop pipelines of future candidates.
  • Manage the overall implementation of our Grow Your Own teacher pipeline program, including program evaluation, data reporting, strategic partnerships, and program activities.
  • Manage TA to BA pipeline programs and opportunities for PPSD staff, including our teacher assistant accreditation program. 
  • Manage the high school student to teacher pipeline programs
  • Develop and implement programs for a per diem substitute to teacher pipeline
  • Strengthen relationships with existing teacher certification programs and alternative certification pathway programs.

RETENTION
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop supports designed to retain our diverse workforce
  • Develop opportunities for internal networking among teachers of color
  • Coordinate support initiatives for individuals in our teacher pipeline programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • Experience working in an educational setting preferred
  • Experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion related work 
  • Able to translate broad strategic intent into tactical plans that yield incremental improvements
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of national recruitment and retention best practices
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data to inform efforts
  • Ability to design and implement employment pipelines
  • Demonstrated experience working in a data driven outcome work environment
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and effectively program manage simultaneous projects.
