This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work. 
This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel generally limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses). 

Purpose

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer for Data to Insights (D2I) improves university outcomes and advances the UT mission to transform lives for the benefit of society by increasing the security, useability and value of institutional data (e.g., financial and transactional data). The BI Developer works with business users and the D2I team to determine requirements for business analytical content to be presented in reports and visualizations. 

Responsibilities

Data Reporting & Analysis:

  • Plan, design and create reports and visualizations for business users and data models/packages for report authors using BI platforms and other tools as needed. Maintain and support existing analytics. 
  • Perform report testing, quality analysis based on business rules. Research differences and recommend action. Evaluate and improve existing analytics. 
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with the business intelligence deliverables
Collaboration, Communication, & Institutional Knowledge:
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the D2I team to design and support internal systems such as metadata maintenance, security systems, and other software and processes. Assist with testing, evaluation and implementation of new or upgraded software. 
  • Gather business requirements, translate business rules and definitions to technical specifications. Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
  • Train report consumers and developers on use of analytics and provide technical support as needed.

Required Qualifications

At least two years of hands-on experience in the following critical areas:

  • Business Intelligence technologies such as IBM Cognos, Oracle BI, AWS QuickSight, Tableau, or other similar tools.
  • Writing, analyzing, and improving SQL code. 
  • Creating reports and visualizations using data from a data warehouse.
  • Gathering and converting business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Creating models and/or data sets to support complex data analysis.
  • Troubleshooting, debugging and issue resolution.
Demonstrated experience with the following:

  • Designing complex and sophisticated data analytics products, such as detailed reports, summary graphs, and dashboards.
  • Implementing fine-grained data access solutions including row and column level security.
  • Interacting with data in a variety of platforms, including cloud-based systems such as AWS.
  • Proficiency with SQL coding.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills including presentations to peers and executives, ability to build effective partnerships with stakeholders. Excellent documentation habits. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism. 
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with financial data analysis, business analysis, and software engineering skills. Extensive experience and knowledge of data management, including data modeling, data preparation, OLAP and multidimensional analysis. Familiarity with UT Austin’s administrative computing environment. Experience using Agile methodologies.

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Up to 100% remote at employee discretion with office work environment also an option. Majority of team is located in Austin, TX, and working remotely with infrequent in-office presence.
