Intern, International Trade

Company Summary
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership is a state authority which was created by the Virginia General Assembly to better serve existing and new companies to expand, locate, or increase trade opportunities, by providing confidential site selection, workforce solutions, and international trade services.
 
Position Summary
We are looking for an Intern for the International Trade Division during the summer of 2023 (10 weeks). Candidates should be energetic self-starting individuals who are seeking on-the-job experience in international business and trade. This intern will be responsible for researching and writing a series of reports to help Virginia businesses understand several international markets and supporting the research team’s existing pipeline of research projects.
 
Duties:
  • Collect and synthesize information about companies participating in VEDP’s grant-funded programs
  • Support the development of informational material and content to post on International Trade-specific social media accounts
  • Conduct research across a variety of international industries and geographies using VEDP’s network of databases, and develop research summaries about products developed by International Trade’s network of consultants
  • Support ongoing internal research efforts to provide market reports for individual companies
  • Provide support for client-facing members of the International Trade team to identify leads, prospective companies, or opportunities for their portfolio of companies
  • Provide administrative support for events held by the International Trade team during the internship period
  • Identify, attend, and take notes on virtual events relevant to the VEDP International Trade team
  • Other duties, as needed.
 
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Interest in international business/international trade
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Practical and/or academic background in at least one of the following areas is helpful:
  • International relations
  • International trade
  • International business
  • Software skills using Microsoft Office – primarily PowerPoint and Word
  • Basic data analysis in Excel
 
This individual has a high degree of intellectual curiosity and is a self-starter with the ability to learn new topics and concepts quickly. Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in International Business, Economics, International Relations, or related field is preferred.
 
This position is located in our Richmond office and will be a 20-30 hour per week commitment.
