The CVOR Scrub Technician / Surgical Technologist is accountable for the technical functions related to the "scrub" role during the surgical patient's perioperative experience. The functions of this role include preparing the CVOR environment and equipment, instrumentation and supply utilization. This team member is responsible to the circulating RN and works in concert with the philosophy and goals of the department.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification is required.
  • Virginia Board of Medicine Surgical Technologist license: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
  • Licensed by the VA board of medicine.
  • One year of scrub experience and certification in Surgical Technology preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.


Responsibilities

  • Inspects sterile items for contamination prior to opening.
  • Initiates corrective action when a break in technique occurs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the role of first scrub on all basic surgical cases.
  • Informs circulator of any changes in surgical progression or patient condition.
  • Passes instruments and supplies to the operating team during surgical procedures.
  • Gathers and arranges sterile set-up for surgical procedures.
