Secondary English Teacher

Teachers must create lesson plans to instruct students in secondary English language arts. Teachers must know and follow a standardized curriculum (CCSS for ELA) while preparing grammar, reading, and writing assignments, homework, and tests to impart knowledge and understanding to their students. Teachers must assess student progress and abilities throughout the school year.

Teachers must be organized and ready to start lessons on schedule. They also must develop and enforce behavioral expectations of student conduct to maintain order within the learning environment. Mentoring and supervision are a part of this positive behavioral support system within the classroom and extending into the rest of the school environment. Our overarching goal is to support a positive, Christian, school environment that guides and encourages students to develop their academic potential and grow in their faith so that they will grow into leaders who will impact the nation of Honduras for the glory of God.

There are extracurricular activities for those who are interested in leading them. They include but are not limited to coaching sport and academic teams, directing plays, and advising school clubs and organizations.

Pinares teachers receive a salary that is comparable to Honduran contemporaries along with benefits like fully furnished housing and bi-annual bonuses, each equal to an additional month's pay. From the normal salary, teachers are able to pay for their utilities and groceries and have about half for entertainment and/or savings. Out of their bonuses, many of our teachers are able to travel to and from the United States for Christmas vacation and travel around Central America at different times throughout the year.
