Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator (35 Hours/Week)

The City of Orange Community Services Department is looking for two new Assistant Recreation Services Coordinators to join our Evening and Weekend Park Patrol Program Team.

The Ideal Candidate is someone who:

  • Is available to work a minimum of 35 hours per week, with a work schedule that varies month-to-month to meet program and facility needs during the evenings and weekends.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Publisher).
  • Has a valid California Driver License, auto insurance, and a good driving record. (Note: Submission of a driving record printout will be required at a later date as part of the screening process.)
  • Has two or more years of experience in customer service, basic parks maintenance, park facility and recreational programs in a Recreation and/or Parks Department with another city or public agency.
Examples of Duties
When assigned to Evening & Weekend Park Patrol Program:

The Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator role is a lead position for the Evening/Weekend Program and the Park Patrol section in the Recreation Division of the Community Services Department. The incumbent will work weekday evenings and weekends. The work schedule will vary month-to-month. This position works unsupervised to lead and perform the duties assigned along side Parks and Facility staff who monitor all field, park facility and picnic pavilion permits, general public use for 22 city parks, perform basic administrative and field maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will posses at least two years of customer service, basic filed maintenance, facility and recreational program experience.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
 
Completion of a two (2) year degree, or equivalent, from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in recreation or a related field is required. 
 
In addition, one (1) year of work experience equivalent to that of Recreation Services Activity Specialist at the City of Orange (which includes planning, implementation and oversight of recreation programming, activities, and/or services, and includes the coordination of the work of temporary/seasonal staff and volunteers) is required. Public sector experience is highly desirable.
 
 A combination of at least one (1) year of paid work experience providing customer service, and at least one (1) year of paid custodial and/or maintenance work experience is highly desirable.
 
Licenses and Certifications:

 Valid California Driver License, auto insurance, and a good driving record are required.
