Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of six PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. DREAM is seeking dynamic individuals to serve as Summer Athletics Coaches in our middle school (DREAM University) summer program. Reporting to the Programs Team, DREAM University Athletics Coaches deliver structured, skill-based sport and recreational lessons based on DREAM’s curriculum.

The ideal candidate is a reliable team player with a commitment to youth development and experience with one or multiple sports as a player and coach.


Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver, structured, skill-based sport education lessons that are aligned with the programs scope and sequence, which include: Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Track and Field, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Group Aerobic/Anaerobic Fitness, Ultimate Frisbee and Flag Rugby;
  • Mentor and set a positive example for high school-aged coaches;
  • Create and submit practice plans to ensure program excellence;
  • Supervise and manage students at all times using restorative practices and proactive interventions to ensure physical and emotional safety;
  • Model and encourage positive participation in all daily activities;
  • Use Sports Based Youth Development principles to create an inclusive and accessible competitive sports environment;
  • Participate in professional development and tactical meetings as necessary;
  • Implement all standard health and safety protocols as required.


Qualifications:

  • 18+ years old and high school diploma or equivalent by June 30, 2023 required;
  • In pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Physical Education, preferred;
  • Experience coaching a sport or similar experience, strongly preferred;
  • Familiarity with a sport as a player, required;
  • Familiarity with multiple sports, preferred;
  • Experience working with groups of adolescents;
  • Ability to take initiative and maintain flexibility;
  • Interest in developing as a coach;
  • Interest in working with adolescents on foundational skill development;
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and meet high expectations for students and staff;
  • Deep embodiment of DREAM’s mission and values;
  • Ability to work on-site during the program hours.


Commitment:

  • Start date: 6/20/23
  • End date: 8/4/23
  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 1pm-4:30pm; Friday hours to be determined

  • Roberto Clemente State Park, 301 W Tremont Ave, The Bronx, NY


Compensation:

  • DREAM offers competitive compensation. The hourly rate for this position for incoming staff is $20.
