PAID INTERNSHIP - Conservation Frame Intern [The Cleveland Museum of Art]

Creating a Period Style Frame for a Cassone Panel.
The Conservation frame Intern will gain knowledge and understanding of the materials and techniques used when creating a new water gilded frame for a cassone panel by Francisco Toscani.
Intern Responsibilities:
- The Intern will develop basic gilding skills and alongside the Frame Technician.
- Help create a new frame for a painting in the CMA collection.
- The intern will also learn how to fit the panel into the frame securely with specialty hardware.
- The intern will have the opportunity to experience the everyday workings in the CMA conservation department.
- Shadow the conservation frame technician when preparing works of art for loan such as glazing, insert backings, hardware and etc.
- The intern will be expected to take notes in a daily journal, photo documentation and engage with a clear understanding of the gilding processes.
Intern Requirements:
- The Intern will work on-site for 28 hours per week.
- The intern should have a passion for learning new processes, working at an art museum and interest in art History.
- The ideal intern should have an interest and skills in studio art making such as painting, drawing and sculpture.
- Familiarity with hand tools.
- Any gilding experience would be helpful but not necessary.
