In this exciting role as a Calibration/Metrology Technician II, you will have the opportunity to work within the quality function within the Service and Repair business in Plainfield, IN. You will be part of the Global Regions Quality and Regulatory Affairs team partnering with our various operating units, the enterprise and its functions, the manufacturing networks, and the other regions in Medtronic.

A Day in the Life
 
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units (SI) using appropriately maintained reference standards. Test, inspection, and measurement equipment range from general-purpose physical and dimensional equipment to custom systems. Disciplines comprise: Mass, Temperature, Humidity, Length, Conductivity, Pressure, Dimensional Metrology, Force, Torque, Flow, plus more.
  • Create and modify calibration procedures by determining metrology requirements from manufacturer’s manuals, laboratory methods, system requirements, or other approved documentation.
  • Set up calibration sequences, methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of calibration and measurement principles: measurement uncertainty, measurement traceability, measurement standards, test uncertainty/accuracy ratios, measurement system analysis (MSA), calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance reporting.
  • Interact with equipment owning engineers and technicians to schedule calibration activities, provide guidance related to selection of test and measurement equipment, and lead others in following appropriate documented procedures in place for the Metrology department.
  • Place a strong focus on attention to detail while properly documenting calibration results into the calibration tracking database. As appropriate, issue Out of Tolerance (OOT) or Non-conformance (NC) reports.
  • Work with data acquisition and validation equipment, (e.g. process control equipment/controllers, chart recorders, DC Analog/Signal Conditioners, and transducers).
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and adjust/repair test and measurement equipment in support of new and existing projects.
  • Provide in-lab and on-site calibration support for equipment that is either too sensitive to move or is too large and not feasible to relocate.
  • Serves as point of contact for instrument repairs requiring 3rd party servicing.
  • Familiar with these regulations: FDA 21 CFR Part 820 cGMP, ISO 13485, MDSAP and ISO 17025
  • Familiar with NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, ASME, or other organizations related to metrology, measurements, or standards.
  • Work overtime when necessary to support high priority requests or meet project goals.
  • Provide direction or training to lower-level technicians.
  • Organized, efficient, process oriented; interpersonal/communication skills; self-motivated; team player; strong work ethic; works well under pressure in a dynamic environment; tactful, exercises independent judgment and discretion – professional presentation
  • Taking Household rules, Code of Conduct and Environmental Health and Safety procedures into account to guarantee optimum work conditions.
  • Performing all activities to conform to all work instructions and quality procedures
  • Creating Purchase orders in Ariba

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
 
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

  • ASQ Certified Calibration Technician
  • Involvement in medical device or other regulated industries
  • Experience with DMAIC problem solving
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on daily tasks, and long-term objectives as demonstrated by self-prioritizing and managing work requests
  • Knowledge of calibration and measurement principles: measurement uncertainty, measurement traceability, measurement standards, test uncertainty/accuracy ratios, measurement system analysis (MSA), SI units, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance reporting.
  • Knowledge of the English and Metric measuring systems with the ability to perform mathematical conversions to each.
  • Experience maintaining equipment service records and system logs or manuals, to document testing or operation of equipment.
  • Knowledge of calibration equipment standards to include test uncertainty ratio and test accuracy ratio analysis.
  • Familiar with these regulations: FDA 21 CFR Part 820 cGMP, ISO 13485, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025
  • Familiar with NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, ASME, or other organizations related to metrology, measurements, or standards.
  • Organized, efficient, process oriented; interpersonal/communication skills; self-motivated; team player; strong work ethic; works well under pressure in a dynamic environment; tactful, exercises independent judgment and discretion – professional presentation.
  • Ability to work on assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
  • Hands-on mentality and eager to learn
