Librarian

The position of a Librarian will be available at East Central ISD for the 2023-2024 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., March 16, 2023, or until the position is filled.  

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that the library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Participate in the curriculum development process at both the building and district level to ensure that the curricula include the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy.)
  2. Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking.
  3. Adheres to collection development policies approved by the district and outlined in the ECISD Library Handbook.
  4. Uses the Texas State Library Standards as a resource for a robust library program and leverages campus activities to promote the library.
  5. Is fiscally responsible with budgets and resources to include timeliness for purchases and their correlation to the Campus Improvement Plan.
  6. Join with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that promote a love of reading and lifelong learning.
  7. Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
  8. Understand copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property and assist users with their understanding and observance of the same.
  9. Embrace the world of information and all its formats and work with peers to help students use them effectively.   
  10. Take an active role in school improvement.
  11. Share expertise at faculty meetings, parent meetings, campus department/grade level meetings, through district training and publications. 
  12. Leads the charge for literacy development (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). 
  13. Ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
  14. Use strategic planning for the continuous improvement of the library programs.
  15. Campus Technology Coordinator – liaison between district and campus, providing technology support and professional development opportunities.
  16. Use effective management principles, resources, and facilities in developing and implementing program goals and objectives.
  17. Create and maintain the school library as a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning.
  18. Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining intellectual freedom.
  19. Maintain frequent and timely communication and reporting to stakeholders advocating for and promoting opportunities for student engagement.
  20. Active participant in District Library Services during meetings, programming and district-wide literacy events 
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree
Valid Texas Librarian Certificate 

EQUIPMENT: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED), audio-visual equipment and computers 

WORK CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.

SALARY: Based on the 2023-2024 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
