Senior Policy Analyst

IPI is hiring a senior policy analyst (depending on level of experience) to work in the IPI Brian Urquhart Center for Peace Operations.

IPI’s Brian Urquhart Center for Peace Operations (CPO) strives to be a center of expertise for independent research, analysis, and debate on multilateral peace operations. CPO provides timely analysis and actionable recommendations for member states, the UN system, and external partners to help missions better implement their mandates and build the foundation for sustainable peace. While the work of CPO is anchored in UN-led peace operations, including special political missions, it also examines broader critical trends in international peace and security.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will involve a mix of research and program/project management. Research and analysis will focus in particular on UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding, as well as broader issues related to peace and security. Approximately 70 percent of the Policy Analyst’s time will be devoted to research and 30 percent to organizational, administrative, and development support. All responsibilities are under the overall supervision of IPI’s Director of Research.
Research and policy outreach responsibilities:
·        Support in developing and implementing CPO’s research agenda
·        Conduct original research and lead in authoring background papers, concept notes, meeting notes, issue briefs, and policy reports
·        Draft short articles for publication on IPI’s Global Observatory
·        Provide substantive and editorial support to research projects, as needed
·        Coordinate with IPI’s Publications and Communications teams on production and dissemination of research publications
·        Network and develop professional relationships with partners, experts, and the UN community to promote IPI programs and research
·        Represent IPI at meetings, including with member states, international organizations, donors, research organizations, think tanks, and civil society partners
·        Engage with member states and UN officials to ensure policymaker uptake of research findings
·        Travel domestically or internationally for meetings, conferences, and/or research, as needed 
  
Program management and administration
·        Support the Director of Research and Senior Director of External Relations with fundraising, including drafting and editing project proposals and donor reports and meeting with funders regularly
·        Support the organization of program-related meetings, workshops, and conferences, draft meeting agendas and concept notes, prepare briefing documents and talking points, identify and correspond with speakers and partners, and follow up on invitations and RSVPs, in collaboration with IPI’s Events Team
·        Assist in preparing and monitoring project-related budgets
·        Work with IPI’s Resource Development, Events, and Publications Teams to maintain and update program contact/mailing lists
·        Help recruit and oversee interns
·        Perform other ad hoc tasks requested by supervisor

Qualifications
·        MA in International or Public Affairs, Political or Social Science, or related field
·        Minimum 2 years relevant professional experience (minimum 5 years for senior policy analyst)
·        Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to UN peacekeeping and/or peacebuilding
·        Strong research, analytical, writing, and presentation capabilities
·        Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with international, regional, and sub-regional organizations
·        Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment
·        Ability to work well within a multicultural environment
·        Ability to interact and correspond professionally with high-level officials
·        English proficiency required; knowledge of a second UN language preferred
·        Candidate must be prepared to work from IPI’s NYC office (IPI currently functions in an office-centric hybrid model)

Compensation
$67,000 – 72,000 for Senior Policy Analyst with experience.
