About the National Helpline

The Autism Source™ Resource Database is the most comprehensive database of its kind. The Autism Society strives to offer only credible and reliable resources to our constituents, therefore we have employed our nationwide network of affiliates and collaborated with other Autism organizations and professionals throughout the U.S. to create the Autism Source™ database. The National Helpline relies upon Autism Source™ to provide comprehensive resources and referrals to each contact.

Employment Type: Volunteer
Location: Based in Washington, D.C.; Performed remotely   
Compensation: College credit if applicable
Reports To: National Helpline Manager
Expectations: 10 to 15 hours weekly.

Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

The Autism Society of America's National Helpline is growing and serving more people every day. The resource we use daily is the database called Autism Source™. This internship will give someone an opportunity to learn program and resource management, the newest technologies used in nonprofits, and gain a further understanding of the scope and scale of the resources available to the Autistic community. Working closely with the National Helpline Manager an intern will gain skills in database and resources, but also nonprofit projects. This internship is tailored to people seeking exposure to data informatics, database management, and project evaluation.

Job Tasks:

  • Research community resources, update resources available with the Autism Source™ resource database, and review/update existing content to maintain accurate and current resources.
  • Identify and propose ongoing improvements of the Autism Source™ resource database.
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems and make relevant changes for positive impact.
  • Check completed documents for accuracy.
  • Scan documents into document management systems
  • Comply with data integrity and security policies.
  • Work with other departments to determine relevant material.
  • Pay strict attention to detail. 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the reciprocal relationship between individuals and their social, economic, and cultural environment.
  • Basic knowledge of human social behavior.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and philosophy of the Autism Society of America.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Strong computer skills (Salesforce experience preferred; Microsoft Office; Google Suite).
