Homeland Security Workforce Opportunities to Increase Research Engagement and Diversity (HS-WIRED)

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate in partnership with the Pacific Northwest National Lab invites you to participate in a unique and innovative internship and development program, HS-WIRED, Homeland Security Workforce opportunities to Increase Research Engagement and Diversity.

HS-WIRED is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in supporting cutting-edge research with the nation’s leading scientists, engineers, and program specialists that seeks to make our nation safer and more resilient by providing solutions to complex homeland security-related problems.

We offer an 8-12-week paid enrichment program. Typically, appointments begin during the summer months, but semester opportunities are available as well. Options for travel, housing assistance, virtual appointments are also available. Join us!

****HOW TO APPLY****

To have a complete application package, the three (3) listed items below are required and must be uploaded correctly per the steps below:

Step 1: Upload Resume or CV in “Resume” section only (note: if applying to multiple positions, the resume uploaded will be the resume used for all positions an applicant applies towards)

Step 2: Combine the two (2) documents requested below into one (1) PDF document and name this file DHS-WIRED. This combined document must be uploaded into the “Additional Documents” section.  

1) Current unofficial transcript, cumulative GPA must be listed

2) 300-word essay describing how your specific interests pertain to national security and one or more of the focus areas listed below, include personal projects or experiences, hobbies outside of class, or any other activity that helped to shape your goals or gain experience beyond textbook knowledge. What impact do you want to make?

If any one of the components are not uploaded per the instructions listed, applications will be rejected and will not be able to be considered. Electronic applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. (PST) on the posting close date.
