AL DÍA NEWS Summer Internship

Are you interested in a career in media and journalism? Do you want to get that experience while exploring Philadelphia? 

At the AL DÍA Foundation, we are looking for college students to be interns in journalism, communications, multimedia, event planning, business development or accounting to join the AL DÍA team

AL DÍA's intern experience is a three-month stint in Philadelphia* working for a bilingual newsroom with 28 years of history in the city. You will get hands-on training in the field, interacting with our editors, journalists and business team, organizing events and doing your own original reporting.

Open opportunities:

  1. Video Producer + Reporter Intern: 
This part-time position would serve to assist the Audiovisual Department’s production and editing of its audio and visual journalistic content. Under the guidance of the Audiovisual Lead, the intern is expected to film, record and or edit content by the discretion of the Audiovisual Lead for the AL DIA YouTube channel on a weekly basis. The intern is also encouraged to pursue their own stories and publish to the YouTube channel.

The ideal candidate would:

  • Be interested in journalism and desires exposure to on-the-ground journalism work
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and under deadlines
  • Desire to produce and edit journalistic pieces 

Requirements
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and editing interviews
  • Familiarity with operating cameras, tripods, lighting, microphones, and other audiovisual equipment
  • Ability to string along a story through video
  • Organizational skills
  • Independent worker

Pluses
  • Being bilingual
  • Education in journalism, communications, writing, video production and design or related field
  • Proficiency with Photoshop and AfterEffects
  • Photography skills 

  1. Editorial Team Intern: 
This full-time position would be assigned to one of AL DÍA’s four pillars of coverage — politics, culture, leadership, or education — to assist in coverage of the daily news cycle in the beat. Under the guidance of the deputy editor leading the pillar, the intern is expected to contribute stories on a weekly basis to report, write, and upload to the AL DÍA website. In addition to taking assignments from the deputy editor, the intern is also encouraged to bring their own stories to pitch in daily team meetings*.

The ideal candidate would:
  • Be interested in journalism and desires exposure to on-the-ground journalism work
  • Have an open mind to learn as they conduct their work
  • Be comfortable operating independently on some of their own stories

Requirements: 
-Must be enrolled in college, Junior or Senior preferred.
-Journalism, communications or multimedia major encouraged. 
-Strong verbal and written abilities in the English language.
-Knowledge of the Hispanic history and culture in the US.
-Strong preference for Spanish-English bilingual candidates.
