2023 Merck Immunology Co-Op

The Future Talent Program features Cooperative (Co-op) education that lasts up to 6 months and will include one or more projects. Co-op students will be part of a highly collaborative and innovative scientific culture with the ultimate goal of learning new biology, chemistry, and technology that drives therapeutic development. Students will be exposed to immunology, microbiology, and vaccinology both within the Cambridge site and other Company sites across the country. Co-op students will work within a diverse group studying the role of novel targets in the context of inflammatory and infectious diseases, and vaccines. This is an exciting opportunity for BS, MS, and PhD level individuals with immunology, cell biology, microbiology, and/or molecular biology experience to learn & execute key techniques including culturing primary human cells and cell lines, bacterial/viral culturing, biochemical assay development, ELISA and other cytokine-based assays, RNA isolation and quantitative PCR, and flow cytometry/FACS and microscopy.

We are seeking co-op candidates with strong academic performance, communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment.

Locations: Cambridge, MA

Co-op position commitment: 6 months: July to December 2023

Required Education & Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the US.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Candidates should have a 3.2 GPA.
  • Candidates should have basic knowledge of cell biology, immunology, microbiology, and/or molecular biology.
  • Candidates should have prior experience with mammalian cell culture and/or microbiology.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and driven and willing to take initiative to learn new science.
  • Candidates should be a strong team player.
  • Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates should be comfortable using a PC computer and proficient in Windows-based operating systems and basic applications, such as spreadsheets and databases.
