2023 Discovery BA Mass Spectrometry Co-Op

The Discovery BA group within the Pre-clinical Development Department is seeking students for a 6-month Co-op experience. The Discovery BA group supports the early stage of drug development at our company by providing quantitative analysis of biomolecules, such as small molecules, lipids and peptides/proteins.

Learning opportunities for the prospective Co-op are:

  • Involvement in the development and execution of lipid assays using state-of-the-art Ion Mobility platform interfaced with high-resolution LC-MS/MS
  • Analyzing and interpreting data using different software
  • Exposure to laboratory automation, bioanalytical sample handling methodologies, sample cleanup procedure and working in a dynamic team environment
  • Active collaboration with different groups internally and leaders of this technology externally
  • Opportunity to be engaged in scientific discussion and interpretation of data
  • Opportunity to present their research results in both oral and written formats (peer-reviewed publication)

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in graduate school pursuing a master’s or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, Biology, or related field.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (6) consecutive month beginning in May or June of 2023.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in graduate school.
  • Candidates must have hands on experience with LC-MS/MS data acquisition and analysis is required.
  • Candidates must have experience with interpreting LC-MS data independently.
  • Candidates must have a strong desire to develop knowledge of mass spectrometry-based lipidomics.
  • Candidates must have a basic laboratory skills and research experience, such as: biological sample preparation techniques, basic pipetting, and dilution techniques.
  • Candidates must have minimum of one year of laboratory experience.
  • Candidates must have a demonstrated record of strong academic achievement.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates should have experience with Ion Mobility MS preferred but not required.
  • Candidates should have basic understanding of lipid analysis using LC-MS/MS platforms.
  • Candidates should have strong attention to detail.
  • Candidates should have strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills along with strengths in delivering results in fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates should have GPA of 3.0 or higher.
