Economic Assistant (Hybrid) Washington, DC - FAS OCR

Job Description:
• Make limited evaluation, analysis and interpretation of statistical and economic data gathered, selecting material to be used in general or specific projects.
• Compile and place in an orderly arrangement specified economic information from a variety of indicated and readily available sources, making rough preliminary analysis according to precise instructions.
• Analyze and interpret factual economic statistics and draft simple press releases explaining findings.
• Work with higher graded specialists in the preparation of publications and related material including drafting reports of a specific scope and complexity.
• Compose and compile difficult calculations or exact comparability determinations for the purpose of answering requests for information from the attaches stationed abroad and representatives of private trade groups and associations.
• Conduct research and prepares special economic reports and statistical analyses, as assigned.
• Develop and apply computer skills using available computer systems in support of the Agency's goals and objectives.

Desired Skills:
 • The ability to perform professional duties involving the application of economic theories and principles under direct supervision.
• Experience in problem appraisal and definition, and in evaluating descriptive, explanatory, and statistical data.
• Experience with data analysis using statistical and quantitative techniques and the ability to prepare simple analytical reports on specialized assignments.
• Experience with computer techniques to compile and aggregate production and consumption data.
Supervision:
  • Interns will report to the National Agricultural Library - Data Production Division - Indexing & Informatics Branch.
  • Interns will receive guidance and feedback from supervisor daily, weekly, or as needed.
  • Interns formal evaluation are completed at the following segments of the internship session, Mid-term and Final Performance Evaluation.
 
Requirements Conditions of Employment:
  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must be in good academic standing as defined by their academic institution.
  • Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • The position is renewable, based upon effective performance, availability of funds, and program needs, with the possibility of a multiple-year appointment.
