Summer/Fall Internship

IBI is an international economic development contracting firm whose main client is the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Founded in 1996, IBI is headquartered in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. The firm is growing rapidly, solidifying its experience in the focus areas of economic growth, governance, M&E, and information technology for governance.

Position Overview: IBI International is looking for enthusiastic interns to gain experience in the International Development sector and provide support to our Business Development and Project Management Units.   IBI interns work from 20-30 hours per week, with internships lasting three-six months, and the schedule is negotiable.  This is a paid internship.    

Internship Location: Hybrid position based in Arlington, Virginia. Remote candidates may be considered, but candidates who can work in our offices at least 50% of the time will be preferred. 

Time Period: Summer-Fall 2023  

Salary:  Hourly rate based on experience starting at $15/hour, part-time. 

Specific Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain, update, or develop new management tools, including internal apps, databases, files, and records
  • Draft and post social media content 
  • Make travel and other logistical arrangements 
  • Draft, reformat, or rewrite documents such as terms of references, employee guidelines, CVs for submission to clients, contract justifications 
  • Correspond with consultants 
  • Copy-edit and format documents 
  • Review project expense documentation for completeness and accuracy 
  • Compile and analyze financial information 
  • Research donor-funded activities, industry and economic trends for various countries 
  • Correspond with consultants or job applicants 
  • Communicate with current or potential partners, subcontractors  
  • Develop management or decisions matrices and other tools 
  • Draft, reformat, or rewrite CVs and other items for submission to clients 
  • Support proposal production 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Required Qualifications: 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States under current immigration rules. 
  • Must be a current college or graduate student, a recent (2022/23) college or master’s degree graduate. 
  • Available 20 to 30 hours per week for a minimum of three months (maximum term for internship is 6 months). 
  • Strong interest and background in international development. 
  • Experience in working in MS Office, Adobe. 

Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience living and working overseas in a developing country.
  • Foreign Language skills (especially Spanish, French, Arabic).
  • Experience writing, editing, and formatting documents, correspondence, newsletters, and articles; experience creating apps and web pages on Microsoft 365; advance level of MS Excel.
  • The ability to produce creative graphic designs and visualization is highly preferred. 
  • Candidates who can work the maximum amount (30 hours per week for six months) will have preference. 
  • Candidates who are able to work at least 50% of the time in IBI’s Arlington, VA office will have preference. 
  • Experience as an employee or intern with a USAID Contractor.
