GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
The Mass General Department of Neurology is home to the MGH Youth Neurology Education and Research Program, a unique immersive opportunity for high school, baccalaureate, and undergraduate students from communities underrepresented in STEM to work at Mass General conducting mentored neurology research, participating in neuroscience didactics, and engaging in longitudinal career support as they navigate education and job opportunities. Alumni predominantly identify as women; Black, Latino, or Native American; and first-generation students. They attend dozens of higher education institutions across the United States, primarily focusing on neuroscience and pursuing medical or other health careers. Some are already enrolled in medical, nursing, and other graduate school programs. Several are working in healthcare, including at Mass General Brigham and the biotechnology industry. The program will reach over 100 alumni in 2023 and aims to grow in size and scope over the next few years. 
The Clinical Research Coordinator II (CRC II) will partner with the Program Director to develop strategic initiatives, manage daily operations, measure outcomes, and disseminate the MGH Youth Neurology Education and Research Program. The ideal candidate will care deeply about the professional success of participating youth while prioritizing their social and emotional wellbeing. The CRC II will have a commitment to positively impacting the lives of youth while advancing equity and justice. Working in close collaboration with the Program Director and a robust group of partners across Mass General and the broader community, the CRC II will actively support applicants, interns, mentors, alumni, and other stakeholders. 
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and implement internship recruitment and selection processes, including creating and disseminating application materials, reviewing submissions, interviewing candidates, and extending offers to selected individuals. 
  • Onboard interns by working closely with program partners across human resources, occupational health, police and security, photography, and other relevant areas. This includes assuring timely and appropriate completion of job orientation, trainings, and other requirements. 
  • Support all interns through regularly scheduled check-in meetings to understand their aspirations and needs, finding ways that the program can help. 
  • Support all mentors and their teams, assisting with intern onboarding and any issues or questions that may arise related to interns working with mentors and their teams.
  • Recruit, schedule, and host speakers for the program didactic sessions. 
  • Coordinate clinical shadowing opportunities for program participants. 
  • Organize group events including community building, networking, and the program’s end of internship scientific presentations. 
  • Actively nurture the large and growing alumni network, maintaining close communication (individual meetings, emails, newsletter) and supporting alumni with anything they may need including for their college, graduate school, and job application processes. This requires meeting to advise, identify, and address barriers to success; reviewing and editing documents (personal statements, resumes, letters of intent); helping prepare letters of recommendation; helping practice interview skills; offering advocacy and support while proactively connecting alumni with potential opportunities and resources. 
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with funders and other external stakeholders in partnership with the Program Director, grants, and development colleagues. 
  • Develop and implement data collection strategies to capture program metrics including participant characteristics, feedback, and evaluations. 
  • Organize and maintain program data.
  • Conduct basic statistical analyses of data (calculating means, medians, and standard deviations).
  • Interpret data using Excel and other software programs to generate graphs and reports. 
  • Assist with preparation of scientific and lay presentations, publications, and reports. 
  • Conduct library, PubMed, Google Scholar, and other database searches.
  • Represent program at scientific, education, and other community engaged events.
  • Routinely update website and social media in partnership with the program’s marketing and media intern as well as other departmental and hospital marketing colleagues. 
  • Produce meeting agendas and minutes; monthly, quarterly, and end of the year reports; and other documents that may be used internally or shared with funders and other stakeholders. 
  • Attend initial and continued education training programs including self-directed reading and in person or online learning activities related to program. 
  • Perform other work as assigned, including administrative support duties as required. 
 
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 
  • Ability to work both independently as well as a team member. 
  • Superb organizational and time management skills, including a high ability to multi-task and meet volume standards with accuracy and within deadlines. 
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and preparedness for assigned duties.

  • Outstanding communication skills including written (emails, letters, grant proposals, reports, lay media, scientific manuscripts) and verbal (in person, video, and phone).

  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other software used to capture, analyze, and report data. Knowledge of RedCAP and other survey tools is highly desirable. 
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information. 

EDUCATION: 
Bachelor’s degree required. Focus on neuroscience, medicine, public health, education, or business preferred. 

EXPERIENCE: 
A minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):  
Assist with the training and orientation of new staff members including all program research interns as well as a media and marketing intern that will work directly with the coordinator.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a hybrid position, working both remote and on-site (including office, research, and clinical settings). The site changes during the calendar year, with need for being on-site full time Mondays to Fridays during May through August, pivoting to a hybrid model with at least one day a week on-site during the academic year. 
  • This position may require occasional work outside of the regular schedule, including representing the program on weekends and/or evenings.
