Project Management Risk Analyst - Operations

Overview: 
The Project Management Office (PMO) of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a Project Management Risk Analyst to assist project management teams in facilitating the risk management process across the project and/or projects portfolio. The position will facilitate risk assessments and maintain risk management process ensuring that the project is in alignment with the requirements of the ORNL Risk Management process.

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and implement risk management plans, risk registers, and processes on new capital projects for ORNL.
  • Facilitate risk management workshops and produce reports and recommendations to assist in the mitigation of the identified risks.
  • Engage with project teams to facilitate process of risk identification, quantification, and documentation of mitigation strategies. Monitor mitigation plans and ensure that risk registers are updated using standard format and with appropriate frequency.
  • Ability to lead scientific teams in risk management planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist the project team in collecting information for probabilistic cost and schedule risk analyses with the insight to critically evaluate key assumptions, biases, and uncertainties.
  • Coach project teams on the fundamentals of project risk management and guide projects in the application of appropriate risk practices.
  • Support the development of standard risk management procedures, tools, reporting, and training for the ORNL PMO.
  • Implement the use of lessons learned and foster sharing of lessons across the ORNL enterprise.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in business, engineering, statistics, economics, mathematics, or related field; with a minimum of eight years of project management or project controls experience required.
  • Proficient in understanding how projects are developed and executed within the various stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with industry guidance in risk management (for example, AACE RPs on risk and PMI’s risk management knowledge area) and understand how to apply risk management processes to capital projects.
  • Ability to prepare reports in MS-PowerPoint, MS-Word, and MS-Excel.
  • Knowledge of risk simulation (Monte Carlo) tools such as Acumen Risk, Palisade @Risk, Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis, Crystal Ball, etc.
  • Knowledge of (or familiarity with) cost estimating and project schedule development practices is required.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Must demonstrate very good oral and verbal communication skills. Ability to facilitate meetings and risk workshops is essential.
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, consensus building and conflict management skills.
  • Strong in organizing and managing multiple projects/initiatives and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Certification in risk PMI-RMP, AACE DRMP, etc.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Master’s Degree in business, engineering, statistics, economics, mathematics, or related field
  • Knowledge of probability and statistics
  • Primavera P6 experience
  • Five years of project experience working within an EVMS environment compliant with EIA-748
  • Five years working experience using risk assessment tools
  • Demonstrable evidence of implementing risk management practices within large complex projects
  • Two or more years of field or construction experience
  • Familiarity with DOE risk guidance in DOE G 413.3-7A
