Tax Representative 3 - Audit Summer Intern

Position Summary
We’re looking for a handful of motivated Accounting majors finishing their Junior year who want to experience a new way to apply what they've learned. 

In return, we're offering you the chance to train on Wisconsin Sales & Use tax law and work hands-on auditing projects under the mentorship of senior staff. These positions require effective communication skills, ability to work well independently and in teams, and a great attention to detail. We value process improvement, so your ideas and feedback throughout the internship will ensure that our internship program stands out as an exceptional opportunity to learn, lead, and grow.

You can choose which of our office locations you would like to work out of – Madison, Milwaukee, Appleton, Green Bay, or Eau Claire. This internship will be full-time beginning May 22nd through August. Upon successful completion of the program, interns may be offered the opportunity to continue to work for the department part-time during their fall semester (September through December).

Salary Information
Starting pay is $22.13 per hour with excellent benefits. Current state employee pay will be based on the rules of the State Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period will be required. This classification is in pay schedule and range 02-12.
 
Job Details
The department will conduct a background, fingerprint, and tax compliance checks on all finalists. Interview results may be reused in accordance with the State of WI interview reuse policy.

All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any time.

Qualifications
Your resume and letter of qualifications should specifically address how you meet each of the following criteria.
Minimum qualifications include:
  • On track to complete a bachelor's degree in accounting or auditing from an accredited university and have completed at least 5 semesters of full-time coursework towards that degree (submit transcript with application)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) or equivalent
  • Education, training, or experience with research methods and applications.

Additional preferred qualifications that will be evaluated at a later stage in the selection process:
  • Experience with Wisconsin tax laws and administrative rules
  • Education, training, or experience in the technical aspects of legal interpretation
  • Experience with process improvement projects (designing, implementing, evaluating, or participating as part of a team)

Your experience can include college projects but be sure to describe what you did in enough detail that the person reviewing your materials can understand your role and what you accomplished.
