Laboratory Chemist Internship

If you are studying Chemistry at a 4-year college or university and looking for experience in a busy and impactful laboratory, we are looking for you! Our laboratory chemists complete over 7,700 lab tests annually to ensure that our drinking water meets all federal and state regulations. We also test the wastewater/sewage to assist operational staff in maintaining daily treatment process balance and to ensure that the final effluent meets and exceeds federal and state standards. Chemists count and identify algae populations in the reservoirs to help prevent harmful blooms and analyze water and wastewater for coliform and E. coli bacteria, nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorous), metals, oxygen demand and solids. A typical day might consist of running a nutrient analysis and preparing reagents for use in both the main lab and the many treatment plant satellite labs. The intern will work with the chemists to complete water and wastewater compliance testing, sample collection, and inventory of all laboratory materials and supplies. Our laboratory also does testing for COVID-19 and this intern will learn how to complete those tests. This internship will last from mid to late May until mid-August. The pay is $15 an hour and the work week is 40 hours, Monday through Friday. Please include a resume, cover letter and transcript with your application. You must be legally authorized to work in the United States and have a valid driver’s license.
In an effort to keep our team and our community safe, applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must provide proof of vaccination status as a condition of employment.
