Summer Camp Internship

Internship Focus:
Summer Camp Interns will assist camp and museum staff in the daily operations of Summer Day Camp at the Schiele Museum. Interns will join the amazing staff at the Schiele Museum to learn about the behind the scenes organization that makes a summer day camp program run smoothly.

This internship is designed for those interested in working with children in a camp or informal educational setting. Interns will focus on providing assistance with logistics to keep programs running smoothly, boosting program community atmosphere, and creating a fun and safe environment.

Internship Duties:
What does a day look like for a Summer Day Camp Intern?
  • Observe and assist museum educators with educational programming in the mornings
  • Help with daily activities ranging from crafts, games, and field trips in the afternoons
  • Summer Day Camp runs Monday - Friday from 7:30 - 5:30
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment working together with camp counselors and the Camp Coordinator
  • Implement community building activities between campers
  • Assist in the behind the scenes components of camp including communication, organization, and set up for camp activities

Intern Qualifications:
What qualifications does an intern need to bring?
  • Bring a desire to work with children
  • Must be willing to be flexible and maintain a positive and calm demeanor when faced with unforeseen challenges
  • Must be able to work in groups or independently

Internship Coordinator:
The internship coordinator is Rebecca Brannon, Youth Programs Specialist and Camp Coordinator. Rebecca graduated from NC State with a BS in Elementary Education. Before starting at the Schiele Museum, I taught elementary school for 5 years. While in college I also worked as a summer camp counselor and assistant director. This internship is for people who have a strong desire to make an impact in the lives of kids. This internship is for you if you love to help kids make memories and want to learn about how to make that happen!
